so today is oddly depressing. and it seems there is a bout of depression going round among the few blogs i frequent-- perhaps not quite depression, but certainly heavy sentiment.
there is a constant power struggle b/t my soon-to-be-wife and me. the newborn demands 100% of our time and we are finding very little left for each other. now before anyone (not that i believe too many people read this silly thing) attempts to give me insight into relationships and how to cope- just can it. alright, alright... if you know me at all you know i would tell you to shut the fuck up.
flashback: in december of 1997 i got engaged. in march of 1998 i found out she was fucking some other guy. BJ and Karl knew of the situation and when I arrived at the spike for comedy night they asked me well? "it's over." neither of them took any steps to offer condolences or any expected bullshit, they simply (in near unison) shouted to the waitress "crown - rocks - double." not a word was ever spoken again, seriously.
flashforward: the best therapy is just venting, just having the sense that some mythical reader has some concept of where i'm coming from on this issue is enough. and here's the issue i'm a lawyer in a small firm that is facing some serious financial troubles. my student loans are due in january and i am literally responsible for about 1500 active cases. my fiancee works 10 hours a week and has just finished up some fall classes (6 hours) and one was an online compostion course. she gets upset with me b/c i don't want to get up with the baby b/t midnight and 7am. not that i don't actually get up with the baby, she just seems to get upset that i don't recognize how much she does. classic underappreciation complex right? but i mean that's life isn't it.
make no bones about it, i did NOT choose a housewife and i am one of the last people to believe that gender has anything whatsoever to with the delegation of parenting duties. but if i can only work 35 hours a week my family cannot survive. and that scares the hell out of me. it seems to me, she is used to working for a big corporation where there is no doubt but that your paycheck will be there. not so in a small business.
